Fencing for Horses Help Center:
Through our companies 16+ years in the horse fencing industry, we have found that the answers to these questions should guide you to the fencing solution that best fits your needs.
How many mares, geldings, foals, yearlings, and stallions will be in the pasture?
Different breeds ages will have specific needs that will need to be met.
What are the dimensions of the pasture?
If you don't know, measure the distance between the existing posts and count the posts OR measure the distance of one step and walk off the area.
How many gate areas will you need?
It is better to include any that you are thinking about, instead of trying to add them later after installation. This will avoid the added expense & the extra work to accommodate incompatibly sized items.
What is your soil like, and are there hills?
Standing water, sand rocks shale, or something other than normal soil content can hinder any fence installation.
Do you have more fence in mind for the future?
If a fence project will be done in stages, be sure to let your account manager know that there are future plans, there can be cost & labor savings available for you to take advantage of.
High traffic areas or abusive horses?
Electric fencing is an effective aid to preventing both the horses from hurting themselves & the damage they do to fences.
How much time will the horse spend in the pasture?
A mature horse weighs between 1200-1800 pounds & spends 50-100% of their time in a pasture. At some point the horse will contact the fence or steel gates. Choose a fence that is healthy for horses like polymer fencing or a decorative fence.
Determining a budget for your specific needs.
The difference between a good budget and a bad one could be the cost of one vet bill.
