Located between Milton and Guelph, Old Orchard Farm (OOF) is a teaching and boarding facility operated by the family of Linda Hale and George Daunt since 1987. An active family oriented barn, Old Orchard prides themselves on delivering specialized programs tailored to the unique needs of the individual rider. From summer camps to horse shows, Old Orchard Farm assists riders in being the best they can be while emphasizing fun, friends and sportsmanship.

Old Orchard Farm has been a loyal customer of System Fencing since the mid 1990’s and System Fencing, products and stalls have helped create both an attractive and functional facility. Paddocks consist largely of black System Fencing Flex Fence, electric fencing and gates which can be seen throughout the property. They decided to use two rows of black flex fence to edge each of their outdoor rings as they are attractive, low maintenance and have lots of give in the event that a rider should fall against the fence line.

We have been very happy with the product, as it has held up beautifully and even have a few riders who can attest to it being a much softer landing than against a tradition oak board fence line or arena wall” says daughter of Linda, Tess.

A newer 9 stall barn completed in 2008, includes custom System Stalls, wash stall components and Stable comfort matting system. The stable comfort system can be seen in 14 of their stalls and was chosen because it does not shift the way that traditional mats do, is soft and forgiving on joints and tendons and has overall reduced the amount of shavings that they use.

In the near future, Old Orchard Farm is planning on adding another couple of paddocks of fencing, from System Fencing, including a "baby paddock" which will be safe for the two mares and young foals they are expecting this spring. System Fencing was also the title sponsor of their Schooling horseshow series for several years and is proud to assist and follow the success of local farms such as Old Orchard.

With experienced trainers and a beautiful facility, Old Orchard Farm is a well standing member of several equestrian groups such as: the Ontario Equestrian Foundation, Equine Canada, the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society, the Ontario Hunter-Jumper Association and the Association of Riding Establishments of Ontario. They are also active supporters of the Ontario Modern Pentathlon Association, which just this month hosted a portion of their Canadian National Championships at Old Orchard Farm using a selection of horses from their riding school program. In addition, they are involved supporters of the Canadian Pony Club and host multiple events at their facility throughout the year while also donating several horses and ponies to compete. Old Orchard Farm is the home barn of the University of Guelph OUEA (Ontario university equestrian Association) team, who have won many championships and most recently were the second place team in the Western Ontario Zone. On top of all this, OOF is assisting in organizing the pentathlon riding portion of the 2015 Pan-Am Games.

Besides being an extremely active facility in the equine industry, Old Orchard Farm provides a wide range of opportunities to riders of all ages. They encourage their riders to act as working students to broaden their horsemanship knowledge and horse care skills, while gaining a valuable perspective on what goes into horse care and ownership. Many enjoy quiet hacks along the surrounding cornfields and through the nearby forests. Others are focused on more serious competition in the “A” circuit. One of the most popular opportunities Old Orchard offers is their OOF Schooling Show Series consisting of five shows held between May and September and open to both OOF riders and the public. These include hunter jumper competition from lead line classes to 3’0 jumpers and include hunter derby classes, a thoroughbred classic, a handy hunter classic, and a final year end classic, as well as a year-end awards banquet.
